Teller of Good Stories
On the shelf
I self-published my first book in 2019 titled A Fleet History of the San Francisco Municipal Railway and it is available on Amazon.
Using Ingram Spark software, I did the layout of the 212 page book with over 400 images myself using Adobe In Design. It is a specialized reference book on a narrow topic, but it has sold over 1,000 copies, and it is the best book written about Muni in nearly 40 years. Small kids who enjoy buses and trains have also been known to like it.
In 2021 it was a finalist in the Reference category of the National Independent Excellence Book Awards.
Ready to Print
Tentatively titled Liberty Summer, is about working and living in the summer of 1988 on Liberty Island, the home of the Statue of Liberty.
After visiting in 2021 and finding no books that told the story of what it was like to work and live on Liberty Island, I decided to write the story of my experience working there in the summer of 1988. Aside from my recollections from that summer, the book creates a snapshot of time in history of how the park operated 35 years ago vs. how it operates now in a post 9/11 world.
I have a paperback-sized manuscript with over 100 photos laid out in in InDesign and I am searching for a publisher.
In Development
An illustrated children’s book series tentatively titled, Christmas Magic. As drafted, it consists of five sequential stories, of 800-1,200 words each that can stand alone or be read as a series.
It’s hook is taking the story of Santa Claus and making it plausible in the minds of young people, and those who can think young, to show that he is a real person.
Santa, with the assistance of many Santa’s helpers in a special group named, the Society of St. Nicholas, perform Christmas magic every year.
Screenplay
Almost 15 years ago I took a screenplay writing course because I thought I had great material for a movie about my experience working on a local political campaign to pass a school bond in Southern California.
The title of the screenplay is The Children’s Crusade. I’ve entered it in a half dozen competitions but am ready to repurpose into a loosely-based memoir.
I’m ready to format it, probably using InDesign, and seek a publisher or self-publish it so at least it is in the market place and some people can read it and enjoy it.
About Paul
Paul Bignardi writes as a hobby but is looking to publish his works and share his interests.
His writings draw from his multi-faceted work history: from public sector work in urban transportation planning to charter bus driver, seasonal National Park Ranger, political campaign staffer, a Christmas tree lot worker, paid Santa, a hotel maid, a legislative assistant at the state level, and an election polling place captain.
When not at his desk working on his current project, Liberty Summer, he can be found working at SF Muni as a facilities planner. In his free time, he enjoys taking his fully restored 1975 Ford Bronco to car shows and spends much of his quality time with his family in the San Francisco Bay Area.
